Building Our Pillars in Christ
Building Our Pillars in Christ
“Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord,
walk in [union with] Him [reflecting His character in the things you do and say—
living lives that lead others away from sin], having been deeply rooted [in Him] and
now being continually built up in Him and [becoming increasingly more] established in
your faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing in it with gratitude.”
~Colossians 2:6-7
Last week, we spoke about letting God refine us through our time alone with Him. Once we begin to grow in our relationship with Christ and our foundation grows stronger, we also begin to build up our pillars.
Our pillars are our faith, obedience, character, and wisdom—things that naturally begin to grow through our refinement process with God. The more we obey Him and His Word, the more our character begins to grow. We begin to become kinder, experience more inner peace, and really start to look more like Jesus.
It does not matter what you have or have not done in the past. The more you spend time with Jesus, the more you allow Him to remove the things from you—through relationship, healing, and deliverance—that were never supposed to be a part of you. The more you grow, the more you become the person you were always designed to be.
As we grow, He begins to ask us to do more and more things. At first, it might be a little nudge to befriend someone, randomly give a gift, or pay for a stranger’s meal without receiving any recognition. The more you grow in obedience, the bigger the assignments become—like moving by faith, starting something much bigger than your skill set or experience, or marrying someone who might be God’s perfect fit for you but perhaps not what your family had in mind.
As the assignments get bigger, your faith grows because you begin to see God as more than a friend. You begin to see Him as your Provider and your Father. You grow in confidence, strength, and resilience. You begin to see how much God loves you, how He will provide for you, and how He will always have your back. You also grow stronger as a person, gaining new insight, understanding, and wisdom.
Your relationship strengthens, your pillars get stronger, and the deeper you go into the calling and purpose over your life, the brighter your light becomes. People will be drawn to you because of the Jesus that is inside of you. Your character becomes more and more Christ-like, and you begin to be known as someone who can be trusted, who is filled with wisdom, and who can handle things when life gets tough.
As children of God, we begin to increase in favor—not just for our own benefit, but so that we can be elevated to have a greater influence on those around us and point them to Christ. Your anointing, influence, and blessings are meant to be used to grow the Kingdom of God.
Those who knew you before you surrendered, and those who see you doing things that make no logical sense, will see tangible fruit that something beyond you is at work in your life. Those around you may not have the language to explain what they see, but they will be watching—especially during your hardest moments. Sometimes, those moments can become the biggest catalyst for people to question everything, turn to Him, and have a radical encounter with the King of Kings.
Not only do others get touched by your life, but the difficulties and storms that life brings will also begin to have less of an impact on your inner peace. The more your pillars grow in Christ, the stronger they become. And the stronger they become, the more they can withstand the difficulties of life and redirect you back to your foundation, which is your relationship with Christ.
Those who do not develop their pillars well in Christ—which takes discipline, dedication, and sacrifice—will not be able to stay rooted in Him. Their faith can begin to weaken, relationship with Christ can begin to suffer, and if they are not able to reinforce their pillars, they might even fully turn away from Christ.
So this week, challenge yourself. Ask the Holy Spirit: Which pillar could be stronger? Which support is not as strong as the others?
Once He shows you, be unafraid to work with Him to grow in that area.
After all, what do you have to lose?
What do you have to gain?

Scriptures to Meditate On
“So that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord [displaying admirable character,
moral courage, and personal integrity], to [fully] please Him in all things,
bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing in the knowledge of God
[with deeper faith, clearer insight and fervent love for His precepts];”
~Colossians 1:10
“Blessed is the one who trusts in Adonai, whose confidence is in Adonai.
For he will be like a tree planted by the waters, spreading out its roots by a stream.
It has no fear when heat comes, but its leaves will be green.
It does not worry in a year of drought, nor depart from yielding fruit.”
~Jeremiah 17:7-8
“We can all draw close to him with the veil removed from our faces.
And with no veil we all become like mirrors
who brightly reflect the glory of the Lord Jesus.
We are being transfigured into his very image as we move from one brighter level
of glory to another. And this glorious transfiguration
comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
~2 Corinthians 3:18
“A farmer went out to sow his seed.
As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path,
and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places,
where it did not have much soil.
It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow.
But when the sun came up,
the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.
Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants.
Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—
a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”
~Matthew 13:3-8
Read & Declare Over Yourself
I am growing in wisdom,
maturity, and understanding.
I am growing in my relationship with God
and in favor with Him and with others.
Each day, I am becoming more like Christ—
learning, growing, maturing, and
walking in the purpose God has for my life.
I will not remain where I am.
I am growing in wisdom.
I am growing in grace.
I am growing in Christ.
