Windows of Perspective
The lenses through which we love
“God, I invite your searching gaze into my heart. Examine me through and through; find out everything that may be hidden within me. Put me to the test and sift through all my anxious cares. See if there is any path of pain I’m walking on, and lead me back to your glorious, everlasting way— the path that brings me back to you.” ~Psalms 139:23-24
Our houses—our lives—have many windows that give us a view of the world around us. When we spend time with Jesus and heal from our past wounds, we are allowing Him to clean the windows of our lives. How we see the world, and how our lives appear from the outside, is often influenced by how well we maintain what is on the inside: the condition of our hearts, our minds, and our eye gates. Above all, it depends on how we nurture our most important relationship—with Christ.
When you look out through your windows, what do you see? How do you see others? How do you see yourself in relation to the world around you? When we sincerely ask these questions with the Holy Spirit, they can stir something deep within our souls. Anything causing a film to build up on our windows may begin to surface. The longer we go without addressing the unhealed parts of our past, the more dirt accumulates on our windows.
The dirtier our windows become, the more distorted our view of the world, others, and ourselves can be. For example, two people can attend the same event and have similar experiences, yet walk away with two completely different perspectives. Imagine going somewhere that is supposed to be an amazing experience, but because your window is dirty, you end up having a horrible time. How many times have you gone somewhere and struggled to enjoy yourself because of what was happening inside you? How many people do you know who never seem to have a good time or enjoy life because their windows are dirty?
How do we remove the fingerprints, grime, and dirt from our windows? We begin by going to the source of true honesty, love, and healing: Jesus Christ. Trusting in His unconditional love for us, we can ask:
“Lord Jesus, is there anything inside me
that keeps me from seeing others
the way I should?
Is there anything in my house, in my heart,
that is affecting the way I live
and keeping me from honoring You?
Am I living in pride and offense, or
in love and security? Do I genuinely love
others the way Christ loves me, or
are there things within me that took root
when I was too young to know any better?
Holy Spirit, please help me.
Create in me a pure heart. I surrender
my wounds, my hurts, and
my bad habits to You.
I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.”
When we ask these questions, sit with Him, and seek out others who can walk alongside us, teach us, and lovingly correct us, we begin to clean the windows of our houses. One window at a time, we allow God access to the process. Slowly, our windows become clearer, our thoughts more pure, and our hearts more like they were always meant to be. We become more aware of how we see ourselves and others, better able to love without judgment or shame, and more willing to extend the same grace and love that Christ has extended to us.
He’s waiting with soap and water to help you clean your windows, one at a time.

Scriptures to Meditate On
“The eye is the lamp of the body.
So, if your eye is healthy,
your whole body will be full of light,
but if your eye is bad,
your whole body will be full of darkness.
If then the light in you is darkness,
how great is the darkness!”
~Matthew 6:22-23
“Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous;
love does not brag and is not arrogant,
bears all things,
believes all things, hopes all things,
endures all things.”
~1 Corinthians 13:4, 7
“So above all, guard the affections of your
heart, for they affect all that you are.
Pay attention to the welfare of
your innermost being, for from there
flows the wellspring of life.”
~Proverbs 4:23
“Do not conform yourselves to
the standards of this world, but
let God transform you inwardly
by a complete change of your mind.
Then you will be able to know the will of God—
what is good and is pleasing to him and
is perfect.” ~Romans 12:2
“Keep creating in me a clean heart.
Fill me with pure thoughts
and holy desires, ready to please you.”
~Psalms 51:10
“Get rid of all bitterness, passion, and anger.
No more shouting or insults, no more
hateful feelings of any sort.
Instead, be kind and tender-hearted to
one another, and forgive one another,
as God has forgiven you through Christ.”
~Ephesians 4:31-32
Read & Declare Over Yourself
God, search my heart and clean
the windows of my life.
Reveal anything that clouds my
perspective—hurt, pride, fear, or offense.
Holy Spirit, renew my mind and help me
see myself, others, and
my circumstances through Your truth.
Teach me to pause before judging,
extend grace, and love others as
Christ loves me.
I surrender my perspective to You.
Heal what is broken,
correct what is distorted, and lead me in
Your everlasting way.
Let my heart be cleansed,
my perspective renewed, and
Your love will be reflected
through me today.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
